Raid and Siege Comms in Ashes of Creation: Voice Setup for Guilds
Ashes of Creation, playable in Early Access since December 2025, is built around group sizes that outgrow a single voice channel fast: 8-player parties, raid content designed for 40, guild alliances of up to four guilds, and castle sieges that ran 100v100 in testing with a design goal of 250v250 and beyond. The game's own planned voice system even formalizes a caller hierarchy, but it is not shipped, so today comms live on Discord, where one voice reaches one channel. A voice relay closes the gap: every party keeps its own channel and the raid lead is heard in all of them.
How Ashes structures large fights
- Parties of 8, an explicit design choice so every archetype has a seat, with content tailored for 8, 16 and 40-player groups.
- Guilds scale up to 300 members depending on progression choices (guilds that take skill perks stay smaller), and alliances join up to four guilds.
- Castle sieges run on a roughly monthly cadence per castle; siege participation in the current testing phase has been capped at 100v100, with the stated design goal of 250v250 growing toward 500v500.
The comms problem at siege scale
A 40-player raid is five parties of eight; a siege roster is that plus allied guilds. One shared Discord channel buries the caller under five parties of mechanics chatter; per-party channels mean the call reaches an eighth of the force. Discord has no native broadcast: every account, including a bot, can occupy exactly one voice channel per server. Ashes' planned in-game voice actually validates the fix, with squad leaders designed to have raid-wide speech, but that system is not in the game yet.
How to set it up on Discord
dcshot is a voice relay service for Discord, built for MMO raid callouts. Setup for an Ashes guild takes minutes in the web dashboard:
- Create a channel per party (Party 1 to 5, or per role: melee, ranged, siege weapons).
- Add the relay bots: one bot covers one channel, up to 16 per Discord server.
- Mark your raid lead as the caller; optionally mark an info caller per party so party leads report cooldowns and flanks straight to the caller.
- Players just join their party channel. Nothing to install, no second app.
For alliance sieges, dcshot can share voice across up to four allied Discord servers, mirroring the game's own four-guild alliance cap, so one caller can lead the whole alliance without anyone switching servers.
When you don't need a relay
A single 8-player party in one channel is the right tool for dungeons and small skirmishes. A relay starts paying off when two or more parties need their own comms and still have to hear one caller: 40-player raid targets, node wars and castle sieges.
Facts worth knowing
Latency
Calls arrive in every channel with sub-second latency, fast enough for pull and objective calls in live sieges.
Reliability
dcshot runs on a multi-server cluster with automatic failover. If a server fails mid-siege, bots migrate to a healthy machine within seconds.
Pricing
Credit-based, no cash subscription. Run bots on siege weekends, drop to zero between them. A month at zero costs nothing and credits never expire.
Scale
Up to 16 relay bots per Discord server. A 40-player raid in parties of eight needs 5 channels, with headroom left for scouts and siege weapon crews.
Ready before the next castle window. Setup takes minutes and players install nothing.
